More and more tension is generated around the issue connected with the charge in a criminal offence of Mariam Sukhudyan, activist of “Save Teghut” environmental youth movement.  On August 19th, when Mariam was interrogated at Erebouni Criminal Investigation Department on charge in a false denunciation, aggravated by an intension of prompting to a profit (article 333, paragraph 2 of the Criminal Code of Armenia), members of youth movement and non-governmental organizations organized a protest which was widely covered in press. In response, on the same day, the Public Relations’ Department of the Police of Armenia publicized a statement containing detailed information on the bill of particulars concerning Mariam Sukhudyan, although investigation has not been completed yet.

Mariam Sukhudyan appears as accused only since August 15th, 2009. She has received the decision on her arraignment only 4 days before interrogation, and on interrogation she has refused to testify for the reason of not being familiarized with materials of the case.  Let us remind, that with respect to Mariam, the presumption of innocence also operates.
