KAPAN COMMUNITY REPRESENTATIVES CAN’T GET INSPECTION RESULTS OF DENO GOLD MINING FROM MINSITRY OF NATURE PROTECTION

EcoLur

The representatives of Kapan Community (Sjunik Marz) represented by “For Ensuring Ecological Safety and Developing Democracy” NGO cannot get the inspection results of Deno Gold Mining Company’s activity in Kapan from the Ministry of Nature Protection of RA.

The NGO’s letter to EcoLur points out the absence of proper control over Deno Gold Mining Company’s activity and appropriate measures for pollution prevention to be taken by the Ministry of Nature Protection of RA and State Territorial Environmental Inspection. “We are anxious that we don’t have the inspection results of Deno Gold Mining Company’s activity carried out by the Ministry of Nature Protection and State Territorial Environmental Inspection in 2007-2008, though we know that re-inspection was appointed. On 07.09.2009 we sent a request to the Ministry and Territorial Inspection where we asked to make us familiar with the inspection results, however, no reply received. The company goes on polluting the territory of Kapan with dumps and wastes” the letter says.

Taking into consideration the risks for population health and environment that may lead to irreversible results including the disturbances in the population’s genofond, EcoLur is joining “For Ensuring Ecological Safety and Developing Democracy” NGO’s request, and in its turn, expresses its willingness to submit to the Ministry the outcomes of the public monitoring.
