On 12 February at “Uranium Phobia” documentary was first presented at the Acopian center for the Environment of the American University of Armenia. This film narrates about the uranium project implementation in Armenia.
Areg Galstyan, Deputy Minister of Energy and Natural Resources stressed out, “We will work as transparent as possible and try not to harm the ecology or to harm in the range of permissible standards.
The Chief Scientific Supervisor of “Armenian-Russian Mining Company”, the Academician of NAS RA Sergey Grigoryan also agreed with Deputy Minister’s opinion. Under him, the technology for ore extraction has significantly improved at present.
Nevertheless, the President of “Khoustoup” NGO Vladik Martirosyan held the opposite viewpoint. Under him, the residents of Syunik Marz are resolutely against the uranium project to be implemented. “I suggest setting up alternative power plants instead, for example, wind power plants, as there winds blow in constant direction,” Vladik Martirosyan outlined.
“We have sent our documentary to the heads of “Russian-Armenian Mining Company”, as well as this film will be viewed and discussed in Kapan,” said Head of “EcoLur” NGO Inga Zarafyan in the interview given to PanARMENIAN.Net correspondent.
