Under the data of “Forests of Armenia” NGO, tree felling in Armenia still continues thus reaching disastrous scales. Forest losses will generate socio-economic problems, including soil erosion of dangerous sizes, pouring rains and landslips, crop productivity cut, climate change, soil fertility decrease, losses in biodiversity, air pollution etc.
In the early 20th century 25% percent of Armenia was covered with forests, but now this figure is only 7-8%.
In Armenia 500,000 cubic meters of timber is used as fuel annually not taking into consideration timber use for other purposes.
