EcoLur has received a letter from Economy Ministry in reply to SOS Amulsar Initiative's open letter addressed to Minister Karen Tcshmarityan, which particularly says, “Your open letter addressed to Economy Minister expresses the position of the civic initiative and concerns with the environmental problems of our country, which is respectful. At the same time, we would like to outline that the Economy Ministry, as a department in charge of developing economy and running policy of attracting private investments, announces and will announce about programs, which will attract possible investments from abroad, which assumes that investors are aware of the Armenian legislation and will operate within its frames, including the compliance with the environmental requirements.
What about Economy Minister Karen Tcshmarityan’s statement made at the press conference on 15 October, it was a reply to the journalist’s question. The Minister brought an example of a future investment program and out lined that “the mining company is obliged to solve environmental problems applying technologies and systems, which won’t have any effect on the environment”.
The Minister’s confidence in this investment program is based on the participation of International Finance Corporation, IFC, and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, EBRD, which poses strict requirements to the company for the solution to the environmental problems, which has been stated many times.
The Economy Ministry expresses its willingness to cooperate with the public sector in case of disputable questions and to receive additional information and taking into consideration your viewpoint to find the best solutions with joint efforts.
