Nature Protection Ministry confirming: 7-8 Ha Territory Burnt Down in Khosrov
Nature Protection Ministry Spokesman Hayk Hakobyan told EcoLur that about 7-8 ha territory had been burnt down in “Khosrov Forest” State Reserve.
“At about 10:00 a.m. on 9 October 2012, during the regular check the fire brigade noticed a lightning-hit tree with the surrounding grass-covered territory on fire near Khosrov-Khachadzor sections. They immediately informed the staff on duty and they started putting out the fire with their own forces and means. The staffs of three other sections and other free employees arrived to help in putting out the fire. Twenty members of the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets also took part in these works. Strong wind facilitated to rapid spread of the fire, so at 11:45 a.m. an alarm signal was beaten to the Regional Rescue Service of Ministry of Emergency States, and starting from 12:00 p.m. the fire brigades of Ararat Region and Vedi Town also took part in putting out the fire.
Due to joint efforts tree-covered territories stayed beyond fire, but around 7-8 ha grass-covered territory had been burnt down,' Hayk Hakobyan said.
