The Nature Protection Ministry has responded to EcoLur’s article entitled “Whether Unlimited Hunting of Ravens, Magpies, Wolves, and Jackals Permissible?” and sent the following reply:
“In recent yeards a significant increase in the number of wolves, jackals, ravens and magpies has been observed in the territory of the Republic of Armenia. Such increase in the number of these specues lead not only to socio-economic, but also to serious environmental problems, which is expressed in the harm caused to a number of animal species, including red-listed ones.
In the first term of 2014 the attacks of wolves on pet animals enable concluding that the number of wolves had increased and there was need for measures to regulate the number of wolves. Article 15 of RA Law “On Fauna” says, “In exceptional cases, measures regulating the number of wildlife species are carried out (epidemcs of population, pet and wildlife animals, threat to livestock development, threat to violating environmental balance).””
Among such measures will enable to regulate the number of these species and the natural level of their population.
