During upcoming 3 years it’s planned to expand the specially protected areas of nature, particularly to establish “Jermuk” and “Tatev” national parks, as Nature Protection Deputy Minister Khachik Hakobyan stated.

“Tatev” national park will include around 15000 ha of area from the communities adjacent to Tatev.

“Jermuk” National Park is planned to be constructed based on Jermuk hydrological reserve, “Jermuk Forest” and “HerHer Forest” reserves. Amulsar gold mine shall be developed in opencast manner in the vicinity to the specially preserved areas. Jermuk hydrological reserve with its area of 17,371 ha is located in a distance of 13 km from the Amulsar mine, “HerHer Forest” reserve with its area of 6139 ha is located in a distance of 9.5 km, while the closest art of Jermuk Forest reserve with its area of 3865 ha is in a distance of 8.7 km.

It’s still not clear what distance “Jermuk” National Park should have from Amulsar mine. “We shall project reserve borders and taken them into consideration during relevant discussions.” Khachik Hakobyan said.
