The reply letter of Ministry of Emergency States to EcoLur says the working group of Ministry of Emergency States examined the consequences caused by torrent in the territory of Gardening Association next Metsamor Town, Armavir Region. Reminder: EcoLur has received an alarm signal from the owners of Gardening Association, the territory of which is located next to Armenian nuclear power plant. The torrent flooded this territory and brought with it a huge amount of garbage, as well as wrecked the irrigation system.
“As a result, it was found out that the torrent pressure was too high for torrent discharge, it hadn’t been cleaned for more than 10 years, was full of ground, stones and garbage. The mud torrent poured out into the territory of Gardening Society, washed out banked earth, flooded orchards, trees and basements,” says the ministry letter. Before the final solution to this problem, Metsamor Mayor Grigoryan expressed his willingness to recover the damaged water passage with his own forces,” the letter says. It also lists measures needed for risk reduction: recovery of torrent discharge, strengthening high-voltage transmission line, pipe and well cleaning.
