“I can assess the environmental policy of the government as unsatisfactory,” thinks the resident of Qajaran Ashot Avanesyan, the representative of Armenian Revolution Federation Party. “They haven’t met the demands of the people even once, for example, in case of Qajaran. The issue of Qajaran Village has received large perception, not only the issues with health. This is the problem of Defence Ministry and national security. The President and the Secretary of Security Council should respond to the issue of Qajaran Village. The Health Ministry should respond to the issues of health.” - The Health Ministry says that the sickness rate with cancer diseases is lower than, in other cities.
“I wonder what kind of parameters they used to detect this. Maybe people leave for Yerevan to get treatment: this is the reason. People used to get compensation, breathed in dust and caused silicosis. But there are no compensations yet. If they check people’s lungs, problems will immediately be detected. There are problems with blood. But people get treatment on their own at their expenses. The administration thinks they get rather high salaries. But if you are all surrounded by polluted air, water, does it really matter where you work, it all leaves its impact on you. There should be legislative solution to this problem, and not the good will of the owners, we need state approach and state thinking.”
