Qajaran Villager: People Here Don’t Raise Their Voices, Atmosphere of Fear Reigns

Mining industry and environment: how to combine ecology and economy. People who bear these problems on them try to answer these questions. Here is one of them – Lernik Harutyunyan, Qajaran Villager, “We have job, but poor ecology impacts on us and our health. And we are very concerned with all this. The combine helps several people, for example, with heart operations, but they can’t help everybody. The combine fees people, but as each phenomenon, has its bad sides as well. I think it’s possible to set up a fund so as to solve the problems with health and to enable many people to make use of this fund.”

“I think that our products are polluted. In the past, many people used to cultivate their plot of lands, but not now. If wastes dry out transported with trucks, they are not watered, the dust immediately accumulates on the town. The whole town is covered under dust, and the plots of lands have been devastated.”

What about freedom, the extent of freedom of expression is rather low. People don’t raise their voices, they speak about their problems very little and express their dissatisfaction only in private conversation. I would like to wish the Qajaran villagers to much such a choice at the elections, as they want to and how their conscience tells them to do. People in Qajaran are psychologically pressurized and it’s a shame to say that the atmosphere of fear reigns here. This fear should be overcome.
