Today the environmentalists held a protest demonstration in parallel with the international conference held in Mariott Hotel “Responsible Mining in Armenia: Opportunities and Challenges” directed against the policy run by the Armenian Government and international bodies in mining. “Their aim is only one: to perform some people’s orders and try to hinder,” said Minister Aram Harutyunyan. Anna Shahnazaryan asked the Minister how many mines he owned, “Vardan Ayvazyan used to be Nature Protection Minister and he owns 20 mines. How many mines do you own or have shares?” “I don’t own any mine and don’t have any shares in any mine,” the minister said. In reply to the environmentalist’s question on the contributions the minister had in environment, Aram Harutyunyan said, “I have founded two national parks, what have you done?” In reply it was heard, “You are lying, you have destroyed Jermuk National Park and issued license to Amulsar. Tell me where the plan for Jermuk National Park is?” Aram Harutyunyan mentioned that at first stage they issued a negative opinion to Amulsar gold mine project, then they issued provisional approval. If their conditions are not met, Amulsar mine won’t be developed.
