The authorized person from Nature Protection Ministry Stepan Papikyan issued a positive opinion to the project on the rehabilitation of electrical communication line joining Shinuhayr substation to Hrazdan TPP (220 KW). He mentioned that the project planned to dismantle the old mine, nevertheless, dismantling won’t be carried out in upcoming years. “I think it’s impermissible to dismantle the old line under such conditions, as Armenia is currently under the threat of a state of war,” Stepan Papikyan mentioned.
The project plans to construct a new high-voltage line, five different sections of the high-voltage network will be rehabilitated – Noraduz (45 km), Litchq (25 km), Vardenis (45 km), Vayq (70 km) and Vorotan 1 (40 km).
The project says the a number of red-listed plant and animal species will be in the project affected zone, nevertheless, Karine Movsisyan, Chief Expert at “Environmental Expertise” SNCO of Nature Protection Ministry insists that such species are not in the project affected area. “Red-listed species have been detected, but they are not affected: 2760 trees and 3000 bushes and other plants will be destroyed, while the total pecuniary damage has been estimated in the amount of 2,217,600 AMD.” It’s unclear how many trees are going to be planted. The Nature Protection Ministry will issue an opinion to the project within 20 days.
