New mines can’t be developed in Armenia and this provision must be prescribed by the law. We should have clear-cut policy in this regard: The National Assembly Deputy of 2007 convocation from the “Heritage” Faction, the parliamentary candidate for the 2012 elections Zaruhi Postanjyan expressed her opinion in her interview with EcoLur. “If the “Heritage” Faction will take part in forming the government after the elections, it will table the issue on the environmental fee to be made by mining companies. But they should turn into a leverage so as not to use our mines in predatory manner,” she said. When EcoLur asked, whether it’s possible to record positive results for the continuing fights against Teghout project, Zaruhi Postanjyan replied, “Since 2007 the “Heritage” faction has been protesting against the development of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine. The positive thing, in my opinion, is the public to fix these problems, even if in the past they had no idea where Teghout is located. We want to outline the revival of civic activity…Such a code “On Soil” shouldn’t have been adopted, it doesn’t comply with public interests. If everything goes on like this, Armenia will turn into one mine, where we can’t even the implement our right to life. Or government decision № 627, which seized 6 villages from Syunik region with the following formulation – “public eminent domain.” The government uses this word combination thus exceeding its own authorities and power. It hurts to me, but public eminent domain doesn’t exist, as a matter of fact. Even Zangezour copper and molybdenum combine stated that it will start the development of the territory only in 50-60 years. They just want to own this territory right now,” Zaruhi Postanjyan said.
