Energy Expenses of Solak, Aygavan and Malishka Communities To Be Reduced up to 50%

It's planned to reduce energy expenses by 50% in three communities of Armenia – Solar located in Kotayq Region, Aygavan located in Ararat Region and Malishka located in Vayots Dzor Region. 'Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment' NGO will provide different equipment operating with solar energy to these communities in the frames of 'Solar Energy in Favour of Sustainable Lifestyle with Low Carbon Emissions in Solak, Aygavan and Malishka Communities' project.

'One of the important missions in this project is to reduce energy expenses in the target communities and to improve socio-economic condition of the communities: '150-200-liter water heaters will be installed, as well as solar dryers and solar stoves to prepare food at schools, street lights getting supply from solar energy,' 'Armenian Women for Health and Healthy Environment' NGO member Qnarik Grigoryan said.

Malishka will be supplied with street lighting, water heaters will be installed at Aygavan school and solar dryers will be constructed in the community. Water heaters will also be installed in Solak together with dryers.

Solak Community Head Badal Sargsyan mentioned that the community with over 2500 population need alternative and more affordable sources of energy: 'It's high time to pass to solar energy. We are also thinking of constructing small solar stations, so as to be able to solve social problems in the community,' Solak Community Head said.

Aygavan community with its population of 4500 people burn wood in the winter, according to Aygavan Community Head Vigen Harutyunyan. He thinks if solar energy is accessible and affordable for the population, the results will be fine.
