Madina villagers, Gegharkounik Region, haven’t received any harvest this year because of not having water. The land areas in Madina Village are irrigated with the water of Argitchi River. According to the residents, the problems with the river started after constructing the SHPP on the river.

“When the water of the Argitchi River was taken for the SHPP operation, our irrigation water was cut off…our irrigation system has completely been disturbed: we don’t have any water, this SHPP has adversary effect on us, and it impacts not only Madina, but also Verin Getashen, Geghhovit…no water,” Madina Villagers complained to EcoLur.

“We raised this problem some time ago. At first, they gave us big promises that water would be sufficient for entire irrigation and the SHPP would operate at the same time. As a matter of fact, water irrigation system in very poor state as of today,” Madina Rural Municipality representative said and added, “This year our potato harvest was awful: people didn’t get any harvest because of irrigation problems.”
