2875.3 Ha Forest Territory Burnt Down from 1998 to 2013

Under the statistical data, from 1998 to 2013 the most volume of forest fires occurred in 2006, 2010 and 2011, as Andranik Ghulijanyan, Dr. in Biological Sciences, said on 18 June, who is the local coordinator of 'Utilizing Stream Waters in the Suppression of Forest Fires with the Help of New Technologies' Project.

Under A. Ghulijanyan, the total area of burnt down forest territories from 1998-2013 accounted for 2875.3 ha, out of which 2323.9 ha is forest-covered territories. ‘During ten years we have damage of 900,000 Euros, while extinguishing fires cost 6000-7000 Euros,' A. Ghulijanyan said.

The piloting area of 'Utilizing Stream Waters in the Suppression of Forest Fires with the Help of New Technologies' project is Arevik National Park.  Andranik Ghulijanyan mentioned that the total forest-covered area in Armenia makes up 333,000 ha.
