EcoLur
In the frames of ENPI EAST FLEG II from 19 to 23 September “EcoLur” Informational NGO organized a masterclass and media tour for Armenian and Georgian journalists. The objective of this event is to familiarize journalists with the state of forests, events happening in forest sector and works conducted.
The masterclass was launched with the welcome speeches by Sirarpi Haykazyan, ENPI FLEG Coordinator, and Inga Zarafyan, President of “EcoLur” Informational NGO. Ruben Petrosyan - Deputy Director, Chief Forester, “Hayantar” SNCO, Aghasi Mnatsyan - Chief specialist, State Forest Monitoring Centre, Nazeli Vardanyan - Director, “Armenian Forest” NGO, Hovik Sayadyan, professor, Technical task leader, UNDP Armenia and Professor at YSU Faculty of Geography and Geology, Luba Balyan - ENPI FLEG II Coordinator Armenia (IUCN), Levon Galstyan - member of Panarmenian Environmental Front public initiative, Public Monitoring Group, Anahit Mkrtchyan - sociologist, consultant of IUCN from 2012 to 2016, Hranush Kharatyan - ENPI FLEG II expert publicist, Siranush Galstyan - coordinator ENPI FLEG II, WWF-Armenia and Victoria Burnazyan – Editor-in-Chief of www.ecolur.org.
Marika Kavtarishvili presented the implementation of ENPI FLEG II in Georgia, achievements and lessons learnt, how to move forward and the main threats. Anna Andronikishvili presented the activities and works carried out by National Forest Agency of Georgia.
Ruben Petrosyan presented the legal and institutional issues of the forest sector in Armenia.
Aghasi Mnatsakanyan presented the activities of “State Forest Monitoring Centre” SNCO and the application of GIS system in forest monitoring.
Nazeli Vardanyan presented how the Armenian legislation regulates forest felling.
Hovik Sayadyan presented the forest felling in Armenia and environmental problems.
Luba Balyan presented the ENPI FLEG II in Armenia, its successes and influence, as well as threats to the forests in Armenia.
Levon Galstyan presented the findings of the public monitoring of forests in Armenia.
Anahit Mkrtchyan presented the findings of the studies on “Dependence of forest villages from forest in Armenia”.
Hranush Kharatyan presented the findings of the studies on forest exploitation, use management and knowledge of the forests in Armenia carried out by “Hazarashen” NGO.
Siranush Galstyan presented “Specially Protected Areas of Nature for Forests and Biodiversity Conservation”.
Victoria Burnazyan presented the problems of forest in Armenia covered on www.ecolur.org website, as well as what kind of works have been implemented in Lori forests and what kind of works are planned in forest management plans.
After two-day masterclass the expert and journalist group visited Gugark, Lalvar and Jiliza forestry enterprises in Lori Region with the accompany of EcoLur NGO, visited Margahovit, Teghut, Shnogh, Shamlukh and Haghpat communities, Vanadzor botanical garden and “Pine Tree” Dendropark in Stepanavan.
Then the group visited Kvemo Kartli forestry enterprise in Georgia, Akhqyorpi village populated with Armenians, where they learnt how the Georgians preserve and use the forest and how the borderline community residents live.
