On 6 December the discussion of the Draft road-map on promotion of sustainable forest management (SFM) was held in the GIZ office. The draft has been developed in the frames of the GIZ Integrated Biodiversity Management, South Caucasus Programme (IBiS). The discussion was held with over 30 representatives of RA Agriculture, Nature Protection Ministry, Territorial Administration and Development Ministries, research organizations, international and non-governmental organizations.
IbiS project expert Armen Gevorgyan presented proposals aimed at the improvement of forest-sector related legal problems, management, forest biodiversity and forest state, as well as proposals directed at the promotion of socio-economic functions of the forest.
The following actions were highlighted by the discussion participants as important and necessary actions: the review of forest-sector policy and national program, development of national criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management, inter-sectorial cooperation, building human and technical capacities in this sector, promotion of community and private forests.
