"Forests and Biodiversity": World Marked International Day of Forests on 21 March

On March 21, the world celebrated International Day of Forests. The theme of 2020 was "Forests and Biodiversity".The issue of preserving the forest and its wealth is one of the most important environmental issues for all countries of the world today.

 

Armenia is a country with scarce forests. Forests and forest areas, according to the 1993 state forest inventory, make up about 11.2% of the territory of the country. According to independent experts, forest cover in Armenia has reduced to 7-10% as a result of deforestation in Armenia.
Under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Armenia's forest cover should reach 20.1 percent by 2050, according to the National INDC.
