Legal Regime to Be Set Over Forests Surrounding Teghout Mine
During the development of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine, Lori Region, legal regime will be set over the forests surrounding the mine in a range of 775 ha, a sanitary zone, to ensure safety for people. By 2020 158.1 ha forest out of 357 ha planned for felling under mine development plan will be cut down, while the rest 198.9 ha will be cut down starting from 2020. The company is obliged to carry out 714 ha of forest planting. All these figures are laid down in “Socio-economic development plan for 2010-2013 in Lori Region, Republic of Armenia”.
It should be mentioned that the state forest fund in Lori Region makes up 101.835 ha, which covers about 26% of the regional territory. In 1990-2000 nearly 30% of regional forests were intensively eliminated, which was succeeded by decay of root system of cut down trees, which resulted in activation of erosion and landslip processes.
