Anomaly Births: Cause - Industrial Emissions and Toxic Chemicals

The copper smelting combine in Alaverdi is to be blamed for the increase in anomaly births. Doctors say that such anomalies have recently become more and more frequent in Alaverdi and adjacent territories.
According to the data provided by Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia, the emissions of harmful substances by “ACP” copper smelting combine exceed the standard by several times (carbon dioxide, dust, lead, zinc.)
According to the data provided by Nature Protection Ministry of Armenia, if the index of births with inborn anomalies and digressions among 100,000 people made up 84.8 in 1988, this index reached 125.7 in 2005. The World Health Organization report for 2005 says Armenia holds the second place after Kyrgistan with anomaly births and similar problems.
