Drilling in Process in Abovyan Iron Mine

As green activists Vahe Vardumyan informed “EcoLur” the drilling works are in process in Abovyan iron mine. “On 9 May 2012 during our hiking to Hatis, a bit upwards from Abovyan town, we met 4 drilling machines working not far from each other. From the questions it turned out they were conducting prospecting for the iron mine. The picture shows that a new road is opened in the zone with trees. As a matter of fact, the iron mine at the foot of Hatis will soon be opened? It was obvious they were in a hurry as they were working quickly on 9 May, a holoday,” Vahe Vardumyan’s letter says.

It should be mentioned that hydrogeologist Ruben Yadoyan, the development of Abovyan iron mine is more hazardous than that of Hrazdan. The iron in Hrazdan mine is near the surface, while the mine in Abovyan is under waters. “They will spoil our drinking water and then only get to their mine,” R. Yadoyan told “EcoLur”.

The right to develop the mines in Abovyan, Hrazdan and Svarants belongs to Chinese «Fortune Oil» Company.
