On 30 August Gndevaz-based local youth held a protest demonstration against Amuslar open pit mining and the construction of a heap leach plant in Gndevaz Village, Vayots Dzor Region. Around 40 people gathered near the Information Center of “Geoteam” CJSC, which intends to implement the project, to express their protest. For their part, the employees of the Information Center replied that no problems have arisen during 6-7 years of their operation. As one of the participants Karen Barseghyan, a Gndevaz villager said, the villagers intend to address a letter to one of the main shareholders of the company – the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, demanding to stop the funding of the project. The signature collecting has already launched, and so far around 150 signatures have been collected.

Reminder: Gndevaz villagers collected 210 signatures under the letter addressed to another large shareholder of Amulsar project – International Finance Corporation, with the same demand – to refuse from funding Amulsar project.

Reminder: both IFC and EBRD are the holders of the chartered capital of Lydian International Company, which is registered in Jersey offshore zone, Norman Islands. Lydian owns 100% shares of “Geoteam” CJSC.
