"Healthy Hrazdan" civic initiative has sent a letter to Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan offering to turn down Tezhsar project submitted by "Alumina Corporation" Company. Otherwise, our suspicions that Nature Protection Ministry is a stakeholder to develop the aforementioned mine, which will instigate us to take all the possible measures not forbidden by law to stop development process at this very stage,” the letter says.
The civic initiative wants to draw the Minister’s attention to opinions expressed by a number of environmentalists and NGOs as regards with mine development project risks.
“Teshsar is included in the list of tourism routes, it’s rich in drinking clean springs and is the most important basin for irrigation waters of Ararat Valley with adjacent Marmarik reservoir. This area is rich in the springs of medicinal mineral waters, forests and is considered to be one of the best zones for Armenian resort, as well as tourism development. In other words, here there an opportunity implement long-term, and what is most important, safe and continuous programs. Mining, especially its unsuccessful, illogical and unacceptable project not only threatens, but will also put an end to the aforementioned values and opportunities,” the letter says.
