Nature Protection Ministry keeps silence on the damage caused by the breakdown of tailing pipe of Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC). Reminder: on 20 August because of the combine tailing pipe breakdown wastes have poured into the Voghji River, which flows through Kapan Rown, Syunik Regional Center. While public demands to eliminate breakdown consequences and from the State Environmental Inspection to assess the exact range of damage and to fine the combine, Nature Protection Ministry, 7 days after the breakdown, on 27 August, responds in the following manner on its official website, http://www.mnp.am/: “On 20 August 2012 Syunik Regional Division of the State Environmental Inspection of Nature Protection Ministry received an alarm signal that a breakdown of tailing pipe occurred at “Zangezour Copper and Molybdenum Combine” CJSC which resulted in leakage of ore concentrate into environment by pouring out into the drainpipe located on the right part of the road running to Geghi and some of part of it poured into the Voghji Rover, as well as onto 100-meter-long asphalted area.”
