“I don’t want that the mines of our country which are considered national wealth, are used by several oligarchs. I want these incomes not to flow to several people’s pockets, but were used for the purpose of nation prosperity, health and education.”
Romik Abrahamyan, ex chief geodesist of topographical surveyors’ group of Geological Department of Armenuan SSR and he worked in many mines. He particularly commented on two mines where he worked. In the 70’s Teghout mine was investigated, while Amoulsar mine was prospected in the second mid of the 80’s.
“I asked the head of our group, Alexander Aghasyan, “Alex, and what? Did you find gold?” and he replied, “Not only gold, but we also detected uranium in large amounts.”
When EcoLur asked how it turned out that the company operating in Amoulsar didn’t detect uranium in its samples, R. Abrahamyan replied, “If the content of uranium is insignificant, this means that samples are taken from upper layers, while uranium is located in the depth, and uranium may be in larger quantities. When we made prospecting in 1985-89, we detected significant reserves of uranium.” (see video)

We have many arguments on negative impact of the project, but we will present when the company organizes public hearings.
Anyway, I would be glad to get your project environment impact assessment, any other relevant documents, and reports (for example measures on mitigation of the impact). Then I would suggest the company to organize public hearings in Yerevan inviting all stakeholders especially NGOs and International organizations.
Please let us know any proven facts and reports how activities on Amulsar may have negative impact on the majority of Mrazes of Armenia?
