Environmentalists’ Concerns - “Death of Kikos”?

Environmentalists’ Concerns - “Death of Kikos”?
15:20 February 01, 2012

Nelly Babayan, the Aravot

Ashot Martirosyan, the Chairman of RA State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee by the Government has qualified environmentalists’ concerns in regard with new nuclear power plant as a fairy tale saying, “It’s like the death of Kikos, we bury not yet born. It’s too early to speak about the risks of a new nuclear power plant, as we are waiting for the IAEA and appropriate EU bodies to reach a decision.” “We have low-level, intermediate-level and high-level nuclear waste storage warehouses in Armenia. Low-level and high-level nuclear waste storage warehouses are full by 15-20%. We really have problems with intermediate-level nuclear waste storage warehouses. The EU has allocated funds to develop national program for radioactive waste management together with RA State Nuclear Safety Regulatory Committee and international organizations.”
