The Armenian position will be thoroughly examined for the uranium prospecting in Armenia, stated “Rosatom” State Corporation Director General Sergey Kirienko.
“Armenia has interesting mines and interesting perspectives, but additional investigations and prospecting are needed. Secondly, I support the approach of the Armenian Government, which rather carefully and thoroughly refers to the discussion of such projects with people who live near such mines. I clearly understand that people demand absolute guarantees that no environmental impact is available, which requires serious discussions and proof filing. Moreover, I do understand there are certain cases when this proof is not sufficient, it doesn’t matter what you say. It also happens. I do understand the people who have been living on these land areas for a long time, who say, “Tell us whatever you want, we want everything to remain the same. This option is also possible, that’s why I admit that not all potential mines detected in the territory of Armenia can be used for industrial purposes. We will continue our prospecting. It’s important for us that we have reached an arrangement with “Armenian-Russian Mining Company” that they will deal with the prospecting of not only uranium mines, but also other useful minerals, including rare-earth metals. In this case long-term appropriateness of its operation will be ensured,” S. Kirienko said.
