Not so far from Lernadzor, Pukhrut and Katnarat villages near Kapan Town, after a pause of one year, the search for uranium has been resumed.
Yura Gevorgyan, the president of ABVAN Ltd. which is engaged in the search says they are carrying out geodesic works which do not cause any type of ecological problems. And this is the continuation of the last year’s works. The works are held in the old territories, no new territory is included, he said.
Currently, no machines are used but the President of the Company assures that necessary drillingequipment will be brought there soon. The number of workers will increase from three to ten. After the works, the company will report to relevant entities and the project for this year will end.
It is not known what will happen in the future. But it is known that the agreement of the Armenian-Russian mining company to search uranium expires in 2014. The shareholders of this company are the Armenian government and Rosatom Company.
The resumption of the uranium search again concerned the population of the region. As we know, last year, the people of this region held a signature-collecting action against the uranium project; 13.850 people signed and held protests. The letter of the Ministry of energy and natural resources in response to the letter of the Kapan Development Foundation and Azatamart committee, wrote that the search will be conducted in places of other anomalies and uranium ferrous at a far distance from Kapan settlements. By the time, no uranium has been found, there can’t be a mine exploitation program.
