Armenian Parliament amends Law "On environmental impact assessment"

The National Assembly of Armenia passed the second and final reading of the bill of amendments to the Law "On environmental impact assessment", Monday. In addition, parliamentarians passed the second and final reading of amendments to the State Tax.
Armenian Minister of Nature Protection Aram Haroutyunyan said the a number of changes have been made to the bill following the parliament and public hearings after the first reading of the bill. In particular, the conception "examination" has been added to the bill, the list of the areas subject to environmental impact assessment has been enlarged. Thus, from the point of view of environmental strategy, Armenia has two tasks tofulfill: on the one hand, it is necessary to develop the economy, and on the other hand, to minimize the damage caused to the environment.
According to him, the bill is in a good state. It meets the interests of both the state and economic entities, and ensures a good business environment. Under the present law, the authorized body is empowered to extend the period of examination to 180 days, whereas the bill reduces the period to 90 days.
