An alarm signal was received from Lori Region that Tchotchkan tailing dump owned by Akhtala Ore Dressing Combine is in poor state and is damaged causing substantial damage. At the same time, Akhtala Ore Dressing Combine, not solving the problems with this tailing dump, plans to take new area in Mets Ayrum and Tchotchkan communities through exercising pressures and to construct a new tailing dump, where they met the radical opposition of the residents. On 24 and 25 March an independent expert group from Yerevan conducted monitoring in Akhtala surroundings. Expert group member Seyran Minasyan will present the initial results of the monitoring, while Oleg Dulgaryan, member of Mets Ayrum Aldermen’s Council, “Community Union and Support Center” NGO Chairman, will make a statement on behalf of Mets Ayrum community residents.
