A large hazard threatens Lake Sevan because of the additional water outlet of 100 million m3. The government substantiates its decision with the electricity production volumes at Sevan-Hrazdan hydro cascade and the increase in irrigation areas. This decision was adopted without any public discussion and not taking into consideration the objection by RA Nature Protection Ministry, which protects Lake Sevan as a specifically protected area of nature. The final decision shall be reached by RA National Assembly. This matter is on the agenda of the meeting of the National Assembly on 4 July.
Sevan is not an object for not well-thought decisions, but it's a national priority and the strategic guarantor of our national security. 'S.O.S Sevan' initiative is calling for all, who takes care about Lake Sevan, not to allow any additional water intake from Lake Sevan, which is the first step in the Armenian Government's program to take 1 billion cum water out of Lake Sevan.
On 27 June 2017, at 12:00, S.O.S. Sevan Initiative's Round Table-Consultation-Press Conference will be held at EcoLur Press Club (Hanrapetutyan 49/2, in front of Europe Hotel, the pre-last entrance from the yard), during which a collection signature against addition water intake from Lake Sevan will be initiated.
