Areguni frontier village (Gegharkounik Village) needs the attention of authorities. As soon as cold weather comes, the whole village has problems with heating their houses. The village is not supplied with gas; moreover, there are no prerequisites for supplying with gas. 'When we file a claim, we are told nobody will spend money for 170-150 people and to lay gas pipes to this village,' says Rubik, a villager, 'Wood is rather expensive here, one cubic meter costs 20,000 AMD. How can we pay that? You, environmentalists, shout that forests should be preserved. As soon as they make this statement, price for wood rises,' he said.

It's surprising that Aregouni villagers have this problem. It's a known fact that the government has been allotting huge funds from the budget to Nature Protection Ministry for several years to clean the littoral areas of Lake Sevan from forests.  While the people who are offered to clean the shore free of charge in lieu of using the fell down forest as firewood, are left without any wood. This is our government approach.
