As of 13 May, 35.5 million cubic meters of water has already been taken from Lake Sevan, as Andranik Andreasyan, Chairman of State Committee on Water Industry told Armenian Deputy PM, Territorial Administration Minister Armen Gevorgyan at the meeting held on 14 May. Under the official website of Territorial Administration Ministry, Andranik Andreasyan informed that due to unfavorable condition the water intake from Lake Sevan started from 24 April this year, when the water intake from the lake started in June last year. Besides, as compared with the last year (which was not full of precipitation either), the level of water in the reservoirs has reduced twice.
We calculated how many days were rainy starting from 1 March till now according to the data of Armhydromet Service and it turned out that precipitation was forecasted for 17 days in March, 24 days in April and 16 days in May, including 18 May. It turns out that precipitation was forecasted for 57 days of the spring in 2014 and in such case it’s not acceptable to speak about dry year.
What about empty reservoirs, we will remind only about one cases, when “Healthy Hrazdan” civic initiative member Movses Manukyan informed that despite the flooding of Marmarik river, the water should be stored in Marmarik reservoir, the reservoir is empty as it was.
