“Each year dozens of thousands young fish are brought from Ararat and let out into Lake Sevan, but they don’t get acclimated. The conditions are not the same or water composition or temperature, but they can’t live and grow here. Young fish is said to be fished by poachers, but all this is nonsense, it’s senseless to catch them – they are too small. The truth is that they die, they are not able to survive here. Jermuk young fish somehow survive, but not those from Ararat. Last year I was a guest somewhere and I was treated with Sevan whitefish they bought in Noraduz. I just had a look and said, this fish is from Jermuk, but not Sevan. Naturally I was asked not to mention about this to our guests. In this way everybody is cheated. We had divers in Sevan, they went under water at the depth of 30 meters. They didn’t find any fish and were rather surprised. They said forage is present, but no living creatures…The lake is in disastrous situation: no fish, the lake rots, shores are in terrible state, and under water you can find anything you want to,” he said. A fishermen from Hayravanq adds: “The tractor should extract roots (after cleaning shores from trees), but all the roots are pushed into the same and then flooded with water. Now all this rots, while the lake gets green. It’s impossible to get into the lake.”
