Lake Sevan level rises by 5-7%

As of today the level of Lake Sevan has risen by 5-7% which is a very good fact, nature protection minister Aram Harutyunyan said at a briefing today, noting that the volume of water release from Lake Sevan depends on annual precipitations.

“The precipitations are normal. In the beginning of the year it is being seen whether the year will be dry or not. If you remember last year the water release was done earlier and the demand of doing it again appeared. Our discussions show that no additional demand will rise this year,” he said.

Referring to fish stealing cases, the minister said that the main problem is to ensure natural reproductive process. “If we fail to do it, how will we manage to give permission for hunt? We must use all the means to strengthen the control,” he said.

“Our work has given results. Today we have young fish of trout in Sevan, a good population of whitefish. We must manage to preserve what we have and bring it to reproduction level,” he said.
