EcoLur, “We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Civic Initiative
“EcoLur” NGO and “We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Civic Initiative continue their series of ‘Nature or Money’ in the frames of which they carry out “Sevan or GeoProMining Gold?” series.
Each ton of ore mined by GeoProMining Gold in Sotq gold mine pollutes the waters of Sevan basin. The first stage of processing takes place in very Sotq, where the crushing and sorting complex operates at full capacity.
The gold concentrate is taken to Ararat, while in Sotq mountains of crushed ores pile up comprising thousand tons of crushed dumps with arsenic and other toxic elements. This was made possible as the company’s illegal operation go unpunished: the inspections don’t visit Sotq.
“We Won’t Keep Silence” Youth Civic Initiative and “EcoLur” NGO are applying to Nature Protection Minister Aram Harutyunyan –you bear political responsibility for Sevan preservation. The company has violated the law, while you are competent to punish the offenders. It’s high time to act.
