On 16 August, the Armenian government decided to make water outlets from Lake Sevan up to 279.2 million square meters to ensure continuous irrigation of land areas supplied with Sevan-Hrazdan irrigation-energy system.
Reminder: The Expert Committee on Lake Sevan Preservation has issued a positive opinion on letting out water from Lake Sevan in the amount of 280 million square meters.
As the certificate presented by State Committee for Water Industry adjunct to Territorial Administration Ministry says, as of 14 August 2012, water outlets from Lake Sevan made up 232.99 million square meters. As of 14 August 2012, water outlets will make up 239.2 million square meters, under the government decision, another 40 million square meters of water is planned to take from 18 August to 01 September. Meanwhile the Committee makes a reference to RA Law “On Making Amendments to RA Law “On approving Annual Complex Programs for Recovery, Preservation, Reproduction and Usage of Lake Sevan”” passed with two readings in one day by the National Assembly of Armenia, which lays down the amount of water outlets for 2012 from Lake Sevan in the amount of 320 million square meters.
