The rivers flowing into Lake Sevan bring in poor-quality water. Under the data by “Environmental Impact Monitoring Center” of Nature Protection Ministry, in July 2014 the Masrik River has the water of poorest quality in its estuary. In the list of five-category environmental standards of Nature Protection Ministry, the water of Masrik River is classified under category 5 – poor quality, conditioned by the phosphate ion. Reminder: the Masrik river flows in the territory of Sotq open pit mining. The Martuni River holds the second place with its water of poor quality, which is classified under category 4 conditioned with the presence of the phosphate ion in its estuary. Sotq, Kartchaghbyur, Vardenis, Tsakqar, Shoghvak and Gavaraget Rivers have water of medium quality in their estuaries - third category. Only Dzknaget and Argitchi rivers have water of category 2 – good quality.
