SHPPs Constructed on Rivers in Tavush Region Operating with Violations

The Pan-Armenian Environmental Front (PEF) has recorded a number of violations in the SHPPs constructed on the rivers of Tavush Region.

The PEF says it has documented these violations and has forwarded the photographs to the Ministry of Nature Protection asking to take proper measures and to inform the public of their outcomes: 

1. The fish passway of the water intake station at “Khachaghbyur-2” SHPP operated by “Megaenergy” LLC on the Paghjur Tributary to the Aghstev River was completely dry, while the environmental flow was so small, that the river almost dried out.

2. The fish passway of the water intake station at “Khachaghbyur-1” SHPP operated by “Qarevard” LLC on the same river was also completely dry. The compliance of the volume of the environmental flow with the terms and conditions of the water usage permit can’t be made out.

3. Though the water was running through the passway of  the water intake station at “Getik SHPP-4” SHPP operated by “A&J Style” LLC  on the Getik Tributary to the Aghstev River, but in the upper part it was closed with a huge bulk, which made the movement of the fish impossible in both ways. Here the compliance of the volume of the environmental flow with the terms and conditions of the water usage permit can’t be made out either.
