The relevant divisions of RA Nature Protection Ministry took samples of atmospheric air pollution within the ranges of 14:30-15:00 on 28 August in the areas adjacent to Nairit Factory. Under the sampling of atmospheric air, the concentrations of near-surface ozone and nitrogen dioxide were observed within the ranges of maximum permissible concentrations (MPC), sulphur dioxide exceeded the MPC by 1.6 times and dust exceeded the MPC by 3.6 times.
According to the passive sampling data installed in the nearby area, sulphur dioxide concentration in 5 observation sites exceeded the MPC by 1.1-4.8 times. In all 6 observation sites, the concentration of nitrogen dioxide exceeded the MPC by 2.1-6.0 times.
In line with the governmental resolution N1186 on 16 October 2008, the extent of atmospheric pollution is hazardous in case when the MPC ix exceeded by 20-29 times for over two days in a row, 30-49 times for over 8 hours, and 50 times for less than 2 hours, i.e. the recorded concentrations are many times lower than the minimum threshold of the hazard. Consequently, the recorded excesses don't pose immediate threats to human health.
RA Ministry of Health recommended the residents living in the area adjacent to the fire, where the results of the fire can be felt, to close the doors and windows of the apartments.
Children, pregnant women, and the elderly are most vulnerable, especially those suffering from breathing diseases. The observations continue and the follow-up information will be regularly presented.
