The European Landscape Convention and the economic policy run in Armenia are incompatible. In 2014 it will be 10th year since Armenia has ratified the European Landscape Convention, which aims to promote landscape preservation, its management and planning process and to arrange the European cooperation on landscape. Nevertheless, the convention provisions are often not taken into consideration in Armenia.
The landscape undergoes changes due to the increasing construction and mining activities in the country, which causes activation of landslides and collapses. The construction of Dilijan-Ijevan railway is the result of such activities. At the workshop of the European Landscape Convention First Nature Protection Minister Simon Papyan said that the eczogene processes, collapses and landslides along the railway station of Dilijan-Ijevan have increased. “It will be a good lesson learnt,” Simon Papyan said.
