The quality life of Teghout villagers has deteriorated, as the sociological surveys carried out by “Socioscope” NGO show. “Survey results show there is reduction in community residents’ enthusiasm. If they were first enthusiastic about having jobs, now they are getting less and less enthusiastic,” Said Evelina Gyulkhadanyan, “Teghout Support” civic initiative member at the press conference held at EcoLur Press Club on 5 September. She mentioned the residents are being affected by the operation of Teghout copper and molybdenum mine and feel unwell: water is polluted and Teghout and Shnogh villages are all covered with dust. “We have never neglected the importance of being employed, but we don’t believe Armenia has such examples, when a person employed at the mine can ensure his/her safe and sound existence in the territory. There are such examples, and I don’t want Teghout to be among them,” said Lena Nazaryan, “Teghout Support” civic initiative member. On 7 Sebtember 2013 the initiative is organizing a fair in the marketplace of Teghout village, where honey, forest berries and ecologically clean fruit will be presented as an alternative to the copper and molybdenum mined in Teghout. Reminder: Teghout copper and molybdenum mine is developed by Teghout Company, a part of Vallex Group Company. More details in the video.
