The EcoLur team extends its experience of public trials in the regions by proposing to raise the socio-environmental issues with this new approach, increase the responsibility of public officials and the business sector in decision-making. On November 27, EcoLur team held a discussion on public justice in Martuni InfoHouse in Gegharkunik Region. The representatives of Martuni, Astghadzor, Artsvanist, Verin Getashen communities of Gegharkunik Region participated in the discussion.
The meeting discussed issues that, despite the active efforts of local residents and NGOs, have not found their just solution in the light of flagrant violations of the law.
Anahit Gevorgyan, Chairwoman of Martuni Women's Community Council, raised the issue of a garbage recycling facility on the shore of Lake Sevan.
The residents of Gegharkunik also mentioned the problem of intercommunity bus wear, malfunction and security risks. "Our right to safe movement is being violated," they said.
The residents of Astghadzor raised the issue of drinking and irrigation water. The residents of Astghadzor have been deprived of their main source of drinking and irrigation water, the Astghadzor River.
The river water entering the community was fully relocated to neighboring Zolakar community in 2016 as a result of the implementation of Community Agricultural Resource Management and Competitiveness and Infrastructure and Rural Financing Projects. The basis of these projects was the letter from the Ministry of Health and the water use permit issued by Ministry of Nature Protection.
