The waters collected from the precipitation and snow melting in the caves of Qajaran mine are planned to be directed to the Voghi River through the aqueduct, Hakob Sanasaryan, a chemist and chairman of Greens Union of Armenia, is beating an alarm signal to EcoLur. According to Hakob Sanasaryan, the construction of the aqueduct-tunnel has been launched from the side of the river. “Dumping the water from the mine cave into the river means you dump water contaminated with heavy metals into the river. For such a purpose, you should have a project, which shall undergo expertise in different levels and eventually undergo environmental expertise, and then it will become clear whether or not it’s feasible. I have searched for such a document and couldn’t find any,” Hakob Sanasaryan said.

The water collected in the mine caves contains all the heavy metals existing in the copper and molybdenum ore in Qajaran mine; copper, molybdenum, gold, silver, bismuth, rhenium, selenium, vanadium etc. These metals and compounds are inherent to Qajaran mine. According to Hakob Sanasaryan, the presence of uranium compounds is not excluded.
