Today, on 2 February, we celebrate the World Wetlands Day. It marks the date of the signing of the Convention on Wetlands, called Ramsar Convention, on 2 February 1971, in the Iranian city of Ramsar on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Armenia acceded to the Ramsar Convention on 6 July 1993. This day is particularly celebrated in three regions – the basin of Lake Sevan, Lake Arpi with surrounding marshes and Ararat Valley, where a great number of waterfowls and waders live in the artificial reservoirs of Armash.
