“In February 2014 a green-yellow mass appeared in the Meghri River and didn’t disappear for 15 days. I have beaten an alarm signal in different bodies and officials, but nobody was concerned… a voice in the wilderness, as always…” said Marat Ohanyan, ex member of Meghri Aldermen’s Council.
“Meghri residents always make use of the fish resources in the Meghri River, but now you can’t even a warm in the river,” said Marat Ohanyan in his interview with EcoLur.
“As a result of developing the mining industry, the river biodiversity is destroyed because of the toxic substances flowing into the river, irrigation water is polluted and our orchards are filled with toxic elements,” said Marat Ohanyan and brought the example of Tashtoun gold mine, when the residents opposed to the development of this mine.
It should be mentioned that in November 2013 Marat Ohanyan withdrew his authorities as a member of the Aldermen’s Council because of the SHPP construction in Meghri.
