EcoLur had an interview with Adibek Ghazaryan, Head of PIU of State Committee on Water Industry, about lack of water, 112 deep wells to be redeveloped, water fees and previous water pipelines of Azatek on 12 July during its visit to Armavir Region on 12 July.
- This year we experience a lack of water, the reserves of gravity water are less than usual, that’s why Akhuryan reservoir is full, the water in Araks River is low, which causes water deficit and irrigation can fail. The government submitted an estimate how much additional water is needed to be able to accomplish the irrigation season. This year the government funds the electricity costs, and these 112 wells shall supply additional water so as we are able to cover the water deficit.
- What’s the sense on one hand to close the deep wells and to open them on the other hand?
- The wells, which are closed are high-pressure deep wells, the redeveloped wells have nothing is common with the basin.
- The redevelopment of new wells won’t promote the deterioration of the basin?
- Definitely no.
- But if the villager can pay for water, and this water flows to neighboring countries.
- Nothing like that happens.
- In that case where the water flows?
- Nowhere. The water doesn’t flow out of Armenia. It sometimes happens during spring floods, as we don’t have so many reservoirs to keep these water, but this year particularly and in general the water doesn’t get out of Armenia. The Araks River doesn’t enter our borders, it flows across the border, and we take more water and give it.
