S.O.S.!!! Killing Dzoraget River!!! EcoLur received such an alarm signal from two sources at once – from the Aarhus Center in Stepanavan and the Greens Party. In accordance with the received information, the cause of river pollution – wastes are formed because of opencast development of Armanis gold mine. It’s “Sagamar” Company dealing with gold mining, which denies any harmful impact on Dzoraget River, but it doesn’t permit local “EcoClub Lori” NGO to enter the territory of the mine and to check where wastes are dumped.
We are appealing Nature Protection Ministry:
1. The alarm signal raised by public in regard with Dzoraget river pollution due to “Sagamar” Company operations should be reacted to and an inspection examination of the company should be held in this regard.
2. Taking into consideration Nature Protection Ministry’s obligations on performing the provisions of the Aarhus Convention, We think it is necessary to involve public representatives in the examination inspection in order to increase transparency of both “Sagamar” Company operation and that of Environmental Inspection.
3. to publish the results of inspection examination on the ministry website or on www.aarhus.am website.
